Our Vision & Values

Our Vision

At Grange Junior School, we aim to inspire your child with a passion for learning through developing their curiosity and creativity. Our imaginative curriculum provides a wealth of opportunities for pupils to broaden their understanding of the wider world and to develop their sense of global citizenship. Our vibrant and stimulating learning environments provide welcoming and nurturing spaces for your child to explore their learning.

Our team of dedicated and talented staff provide well-planned and well-structured lessons alongside a wide range of enrichment activities. We are proud to offer a high-quality education which is appropriately challenging and thought provoking. Children, staff, and parents work actively in partnership to enable every child to realise their potential across the curriculum and to equip them with the essential reading, writing and maths skills that form the foundations for future learning.

We provide a safe, caring, supportive and inclusive environment for your child to develop as an individual, secure in knowing who they are and what they want from life. Children are encouraged to contribute to the wider school community through pupil voice groups so that they help to shape their school experience.

Our Values

Grange Junior School’s values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy, independent and confident citizens. We encourage children to develop personal qualities, such as responsibility, self-discipline, self-esteem, and co-operation, thus equipping them for life in the future.

These values are unpicked further through our collective worship programme which focusses termly on a different value. We explore famous and notable people both historic and contemporary to understand how they have found success through using the value so that pupils understand how powerful these values are.

5 Key Learning Values

  • Aspiration – develops a desire for improvement through focus and self-regulation
  • Bravery – develops self-belief when taking risks
  • Reflection - develops open-minded, critical thinking
  • Resilience – develops a determination to cope with challenge
  • Support – develops a sense of personal and joint responsibility and respect

British Values

At Grange Junior School, we actively promote British values through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum, and teaching. As such, we promote tolerance of, and respect for, people of all faiths (or those with no faith), cultures, and lifestyles.

We prepare children and young people positively for life in modern Britain by supporting them through our words, actions, and influence, not just within school, but also within the wider community.

Promoting Our Values

The government defines British values as:

  • Democracy.
  • Rule of law.
  • Individual liberty.
  • Mutual respect.
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths.

At Grange Junior School, we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world. Underpinning all of this is a range of curriculum topics that have strong links to the British Empire. We actively challenge children, staff, and parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British values, including ‘extremist’ views.

As part of The White Horse Federation, we passionately believe that by working together, the children are able to have a higher quality of education, and that as colleagues, we will also benefit from and reap the rewards of a values-based organisation where no one is left behind.
